On Stone and Making

Marbobjects was founded in Carrara in 2019, in proximity to the quarries that have supplied stone to sculptors since antiquity. The studio works with a small team of stonecutters whose families have worked these mountains for generations.

Every object begins as a geological fact — a specific block, from a specific seam, quarried at a specific altitude. The vein, the grain, the flaw: these are not variables to be corrected, they are the piece itself.

We produce in limited runs. Some objects are unique. All are made by hand and are numbered, with a certificate that traces the stone from its origin coordinates to your table.

The process begins with material selection at the quarry face. We are present at extraction and photograph every block before it enters the workshop. This documentation becomes part of the object's provenance record.

Cutting is done by hand with traditional diamond wire saws. Finishing — honing, polishing, or leaving the surface raw — is decided in response to each stone's particular character. No two pieces are identical.
